Ciompi Quartet

"The Ciompi Quartet is from America, but is of international stature. Their understanding of music is entirely European. The four members of the Ciompi were able to render with impeccable precision even the most complex points of the text.  Technical precision, cleanliness of sound, mastery of the bow."   La Sicilia

"The Ciompi Quartet performed at the Shanghai Conservatory's Heluding concert hall last night. Their music, full of passion, yet with pure and beautiful tone color, intoxicated the listener."   Wen Hui- Shanghai

"From beginning to end the playing sounded intelligent and sure, softened at the edges by a full and mellow tone"  The New York Times

"Rarely does a concert completely live up to expectations. As it turned out, the string quartet in question... the Ciompi Quartet... was phenomenal. They play with a unanimity of phrasing and attack that is remarkable. Every nuance, every shift in dynamics, had the four playing as one, and the intensity in the finale was thrilling. They are amazing."  Grunion Gazette

The Ciompi Quartet was founded at Duke University in 1965 by the renowned Italian violinist Giorgio Ciompi. All its members serve on Duke’s faculty and play a leading role in the cultural life of the University, in addition to traveling widely throughout the year for performances.

Concerts by the Ciompi Quartet are known for their intelligence and musical sophistication, and for a warm, unified sound that is enhanced by the players’ strong individual voices. With a rare maturity and insight born of wide experience on the concert stage, the Ciompi Quartet projects the heart and soul of the music, in a repertoire that ranges from well-known masterpieces to works by today's most communicative composers.
